Things I've learned in June

I found this amazing post today on the blog Chatting at the Sky about what had been learned in the month of June and since Emily was encouraging her readers to write their own post, I felt inspired!

1.  It's important to keep an open mind.  At the beginning of June I moved back to school to work for a couple of weeks.  I mentioned in a previous blog post that I had felt nervous to do so because many of my friends had graduated.  My nerves caused me to be a bit removed from the group and first and it didn't take me long to realize that I had to open up more.  Being pushed outside of my comfort zone was so beneficial.
2.  To love myself even the parts that aren't so great.  2&3 sort of go hand and hand.  I found myself these past couple of weeks encouraging others to love themselves, even the parts they aren't fond of.  So for me, that would be my anxiety.  God made me this way and I've come to understand that he did so because I bring something completely different to the table.  It helps me to think of it that way and it also helps me to come to terms with what I cannot change.  I can always work on dealing with my anxiety and I do daily, but it is who I am.  Going hand and hand with that lesson, I'm finding it crucial to come to terms with things I cannot change in general.  Life is stubborn sometimes and just because I can't get something to go my way doesn't mean the world will end.
3.  To embrace what I cannot change.
4.  I will never stop learning.  Watching my brother and his class graduate on Monday was basically mind blowing.  It was a total flashback.  I could remember how it felt to be that senior in high school who was graduating and heading to college.  I remember how I felt that I would never know more than I knew in that moment.  I was so wrong.  Life has taught me that I will never stop learning.  In three years, what I have come to know through various life experiences is a significant amount more than I knew as a high school senior.  It's truly brilliant to think about.
5.  Seeing the glass half full is much better than seeing it half empty.  I'm not always a negative Nancy, but a lot of the time I can be.  I hate change and I also hate when things don't go how I pictured them.  It frustrates me to no end and I'm working on it, but it's been teaching me the positives of seeing the glass half full rather than seeing it half empty.  Life won't kick me in the ass as much if I start looking at it from that perspective.
6.  Dunkin' Donuts still does not beat out Starbucks for me.  I really try to like Dunkin' more because, you know, it's cheaper and with Starbucks recent hike in prices, it's more fitting for a college student.  However, every freaking time I get a latte I hate it.  I got one today and it tasted like I was drinking cigarette water, or how I'd imagine that would taste.
7.  New underwear is always a good idea.  I typically feel guilty for buying myself something but today I bought new underwear and realized that doing that every once in a while is a fantastic idea.  Out with the old and in with the new.
8.  I hate loud televisions.  No one needs to blast a T.V....
9.  God has blessed me.  I've always known this but it seems like each month he shows me another reason why that's true.

Buyers remorse

Have you ever bought something for yourself and then totally felt guilty about it for, like, ever?  I have been in shoppers grief for pretty much the last week and a half and I totally can't shake it!  I am not one to buy things for myself on a daily basis since I like to think that I am a pretty practical saver.  Every once in a while I indulge and when I do it's because I really, really, REALLY want what I'm buying and I have the money saved.  This time around, not so much.  I started obsessing over this J.Crew necklace online and it was out of stock and I kept saying "well you deserve it!" and "you just found it on Ebay for only $60!" and "you never buy yourself anything, so shut up and buy it already."  So I did, I bid on it and won it for like $60 and I immediately felt guilty about it.  When I told Tim I had won it he kinda looked at me like "really babe? You just spent how much on a necklace?"  I think that most of the time my purchases are a little more practical, but even so!  Tim is the king on indulgence when he can afford it and so I thought he'd be behind me 100%! I guess I was wrong.  Thennnnn I got home and was like "mom!  I bought a gorgeous necklace for only $60 which is a bargain!" She judged me, like pretty bad guys and so since this incident I have felt guilty about the very pretty necklace hanging on my hook in my room.  I kinda want to just return it (but have taken the tags off.)  To make matters worse, I tried to wear it the other day and it kinda drove me nuts.  Granted Tim was over and I was in a cuddly mood as usual and it was just getting in the way, but still, I hated the purchase even more.

I want to love this thing, I really do.  Does anyone else feel this way after they indulge in themselves?

A few of my favorite moments from the past week

So as much as I'd love to explain all these photos right under the pictures themselves, Blogger is giving me a hard time today and won't let me.  So I'll start from the top!

See those fancy dressed up photos?  Don't we clean up well? Tim and I went with friends to an anniversary dinner for where we work and it was really nice.  I'm obsessed with the necklace I am wearing because I got it on super sale from the Gap that morning and it just happened to match my shoes perfectly.  It's so exciting when that happens.

The blue striped shoes are new as well and they were also a lucky find at the Gap.  I got them 50% off and any time that happens, you better know it was a good day.  Tim and I had gone shopping that day and because I am a child and we both love Disney, he bought me a George Sanderson from Monsters Inc. and I couldn't be more excited.  Pooh bear and the peas were the first things Tim ever bought me (for Valentine's Day.)

After those pictures was last Sunday right after Church.  It was beautiful out and it was just one of those days where you hardly wear makeup, wear a maxi dress, and hang outside with your man.  Tim has been wanting to play catch lately (only boy in the family syndrome) and so because I love him, I suck it up, put a glove on and throw my hardest.

That Sunday we also headed to Walmart so I could buy that awesome mason jar tumblr and obviously pause to take a picture with Mario (Tim's best guy friend is named Mario so we thought we were being funny).

Lastly, I had an awful day on Tuesday.  On top of putting up with crap from my University I had awful anxiety.  Tim surprised me and took me out to a great little Italian place for food and out for ice cream afterwards.  He is so amazing to me and I'm not too sure how I lucked out.

So sorry that was so much at once.  Life is busy over on my end and I can hardly keep up with myself, let alone the blog!  But I'm trying because I adore you all so much.

In other news, I am at work today and I am finding it hard to believe that it's only 11:30ish and that I haven't been here longer than an hour and a half.  I'm eager to go home even though I have an event tonight.  Womp.

I'm hoping to get the pictures up from my confirmation soon and talk a little about all of that and in the coming weeks I will be reviewing Daphne Oz's new book Relish and Joy Cho's book Blog, Inc.

Stay tuned and as always, thanks for reading :)
